The principals of Jacobs, Velella and Kerr, P.C. are Alberto Velella CPA and Michael Carlson CPA. The firm's Management Information Systems Department is run by Richard W. Drechsler. A professional staff of four full-time and two part-time accountants support management in the day-to-day operations of the firm.


Alberto Velella, CPA

Alberto Velella, CPA is the managing partner of Jacobs, Velella and Kerr, P.C. He joined the firm of Herman Jacobs & Co., CPA's upon graduation as a staff accountant and progressed steadily to become a partner with Herman Jacobs in 1985. He has developed expertise in accounting, auditing and taxation of construction contractors, retailers, manufacturers and the specialized field of Small Business Investment companies. Alberto has dealt extensively with subsidiaries of Italian companies doing business in the United States. Alberto advises many of the firm's clients in matters of pension and profit sharing administration.

Alberto is a graduate of Bentley College where he received both a B.S. in Accounting and an M.S. in Taxation. He is certified in Massachusetts as a certified public accountant and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants as well as the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants. He serves as a director for a number of private companies and as a trustee for various trusts.

MICHAEL E. CARLSON, CPA
SENIOR ACCOUNTANT/AUDIT MANAGER

Michael Carlson brings to his role of senior accountant/audit manager, a diverse background of auditing and financial statement preparation experience as well experience from corporate and public accounting sectors. He has developed a wide range of auditing and accounting knowledge having served as auditor for various manufacturers, retailers, collection agencies, investment companies, real estate management companies, pension plans, 401(k) plans, local income tax authorities and governmental regulatory authorities. Michael has also developed experience in dealing with corporate and non-profit clients required to perform annual governmental or ?Yellow Book? audits, and audits in accordance with U.S. Office of Management and Budget Circular A-133, Audits of State, Local Governments and Non-Profit Organizations.

Complimenting his auditing and accounting knowledge, Michael has a broad range of experience in personal and corporate tax experience, enabling him to provide clients with well-rounded advisory and problem solving skills. He has been responsible for the supervision, preparation and filing of various multi-state and local income tax returns, both personal and corporate, in most of the states of the union. Michael is also responsible for the supervision, preparation and filing of the firm?s 401(k) plan and fringe benefits tax returns. He is also responsible for the preparation and filing of information returns for clients with financial interests outside of the United States.

Michael is a 1992 graduate of St. Bonaventure University, in Western New York, with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting. He is licensed in Massachusetts as a Certified Public Accountant and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA)

Richard Drechsler

Richard W. Drechsler manages the area of Management Information Systems for Jacobs, Velella & Kerr, P.C. and is also an accounting manager for the firm. In this capacity he advises clients regarding computer hardware and software, installs software packages and develops specialized software for specific client needs. Within the firm, Richard supervises the in-house IT operation and is a net work manager. He has a full working knowledge of Microsoft Office, mail merge procedures, database systems, general ledger packages and is a  Certified Quickbooks ProAdvisor

Richard has been an integral part of the firm for thirty years, starting his career as a staff accountant with Herman Jacobs & Co. in 1969. He is accountant-in-charge for clients involved in wholesaling, insurance, production of chemical adhesives and financial loan services.

A 1976 graduate of Bentley College with a B.S. in accounting, Richard is also a Vietnam veteran who served in the U.S. Army between 1968 and 1969 and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service.  He acts as a director and/or trustee for various private companies and trusts.
